Does anyone have info on putting server 2k8 on top of win 7?
Or is this vista solution the only one available?

I tried to make the registrymodification for the audio, but my audio still stutters. I am using W2K8R2, any thoughts on why this could still be happening?

BitDefender Antivirus 2010 works with Win2008R2 x64. It will initially error out saying it's only compatible with XP/Vista/7, so you have to be wily as they only give you a very small exe that downloads the bdav.msi from their site. Once the install fails if you go edit the msi in your temp internet files, and take the [1] out of the filename, it works like a champ!

Installed WinSrv08 ENT from USB stick (no DVD's handy) on to Dell D620 (with reboots). Added WLAN feature. Rebooted. Threw in old LinkSys Wireless G wireless card (by old I mean WPC54G ver 1.2). OS picked up the device and installed drivers without issue. Set up local WLAN parms (SSID, etc) and system was up and running on my home LAN. All told, including OS install and some GPO changes about an hour and a half. Fact is this was a lot easier than setting up WinSrv03 on my HP ZV6000.

<strong>Arris:</strong> Thanks for sharing your experiences with us! :)

I had used windows 95, 98, windows 2000, now using 2003. I never used Win XP on my PC. When using Win 2008 as workstation, it will cost more for license ?

<strong>Arris:</strong> It won't cost you anything as long as you use the method to rearm it up to 240 days and then reinstall it. In case you don't want to reinstall every 240 days, consider purchasing a Technet License (<a href="http://www.winsupersite.com/win7/totw/technet2.asp" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Paul Thurrott</a>) or any other methods to get a cheap/free serial.

I've installed everything... and everythings works - except for "Group similar taskbar buttons" and also that you can't click/select the preview window above the taskbarbuttons.
Any suggestions on how to fix that?

Comodo has come out with version 4.1.something of their FREE Internet Security Suite. Although according to them Server2008 is not supported I gave it a try.

Installation was quick and nice. To see if it worked I sent myself some emailed malware which was blocked in all instances. I browsed to some zero day malware sites and Defense Plus blocked all. All ports stealthed.

So it seems this package works fine (at a total RAM use of less than 20,000K and little CPU use. This really may be the best security package available. To see it tested, check out Languy99's video on it:

I guess some people DO believe in Open Source Software and Linux... True, you can customise it and lose time writing some drivers and utilities instead of working. Yes, there are some big guys using this kind of technology too. But the naked truth is that 8 in every 10 computers use a propietary OS. Now, what is the big deal about that Bill Gates and Microsoft dominating the World?

Of course I use Windows Server 2008 and I want it to look and behave like a regular PC. I use it for work and I use for entertainment and I use it for playing games and I use it for what not... Hell... I even have a Virtual Machine running CentOS & Asterisk that is hosted under Windows Server 2008.

Linux is ok if you have low-end computer and don't mind doing everything yourself (that's why it is free), but after certain age one shouldn't have a coin shortage and that's where Windows Server 2008 comes to the rescue!
