I JUST installed Server 2008 (complete installation) and am confronted with creating a new password before opening the OS. Whatever I enter is not good enough. What are the rules? Am I on the wron track if I want this for a workstation? Did I make a mistake installing the complete server rather than going the custom installation route? How should I proceed?

Like said in the intallation page in the manual at step 10, you have to enter a strong password with at least one capital letter and one number, so Passw0rd or My$trongP@ssw0rd should do the job. When you are logged in to windows you can disable this enforment via this tutorial.

The only mistake you can make during the installation is selecting a Server Core Installation in stead of a Full Installation, but I guess this doesn't affect the creation of a new password at the first start.

Good luck! Hope you can log in now! ;)

Thanks, Arris. It was so simple to do this, and I'm logged in. The OS is very interesting, so far.
