Trying to install the new Bing Desktop on Server 2008 R2 but it seems there must be something that keeps it from being installed. Anyone have any idea how to manipulate Bing Desktop to install on Server 2008 R2. I've got all teh utility functions woring from the tool but still no success.

Step 1: Download BingDesktopSetup.exe from http://www.bing.com/explore/desktop

The downloaded file is a self-extracting cabinet file. We will use WinRAR in the upcoming step to extract contents to a folder.

Step 2: Navigate to your Downloads folder or the location which you saved the file.

Step 3: Download WinRAR or 7-zip (if you already one or the other skip this step)

Step 4: (in this step i'll use winrar) Right-click on BingDesktopSetup.exe and choose Extract to BingDesktopSetup\

Step 5: Download Orca MSI Editor here: http://www.technipages.com/wp-content/u ... 1/orca.Msi

Step 6: Navigate to BingDesktopSetup folder

Step 7: Right-click on BingDesk.msi and choose "Edit with Orca"

Step 8: In the Orca window, on left pane go to InstallUISequence

Step 9: Right-click on OSVersionCheck and choose "Drop Row". Choose OK

Step 10: Go up to File and choose Save. Now close out of Orca.

Step 11: Double click on BingDesk.msi to launch it. The installation will automatically proceed and install the Bing Desktop tool.

That's it. Enjoy

Just in case anyone else wants to install Bing desktop on a Server OS, but doesn't want to play around with Orca or doesn't know how to, I wrote a blog post a while ago with a downloadable msi that has the required change already made.

Link to blog post: http://blog.sperring.me/content/install ... er-2008-r2

Just hit the download link in step 3 to grab the file.
