Hi folks
I installed SNIPER ELITE from the original DVD. The system didn't complain, at the end it asked for reboot (it is protected with STARFORCE) and that was the end. Now it enters automatically in the recovery console... but I have not backups. I am trying to fix it with Microsoft DART 6.5 64bit, but even I have been able to stop the starforce service (or part of it...) it continues stuck. The automatic procedures DART offers to repair the system fail miserably... I suppose I'll have to format :?
Any clever idea before?
Thanks

Windows creates two partitions when you install R2

1) A 200 MB recovery partition that is available when you hit F8 before Windows loads, in an option called "repair your computer"

2) The OS partition

Boot into your recovery console again...

Enter command prompt

Type diskpart

Then type list disk

You should see disk 0, disk 1, disk 2, etc. You should be able to decipher which disk # relates to your operating system drive. For example on my computer, disk 0 is 465GB large so I know thats my OS. I also have a disk 6 which is only 1910MB large and I know thats my 2GB flash drive. Once you find your drive letter, type:

select disk #

So if you're OS is on disk 0 you would type select disk 0

Now type list partition

You will see the 200MB recovery partition and the second one which is the actual OS.

Find out which partition number contains your OS, and then type:

select partition #

So if your OS is partition 2 you would type: select partition 2

Then type: active

Now that we have forced Windows to recognize the OS partition as the active partition let's fix the MBR and write a new boot sector to see if this hopefully resolves your issue.

In command prompt, type:

bootrec.exe /fixmbr

then

bootrec.exe /fixboot

I hope these changes resolves your issue, but hopefully that game didn't corrupt your registry in any way.

I was able to play the game fine without any issues on my machine.

I did download the game from a torrent and just simply extracted the zipped file and double clicked sniperelite.exe to play game.

First, many thanks for your help. I have followed your steps and now it says bootmgr is missing, press ctrl alt del to restart...
Dart 6.5 stopped finding the installation of windows, and did something to fix it. After that the system continues with the same problems... The complaint about bootmgr disappeared, but still unable to boot properly

Thanks anyway

About the other person that ran sniper elite normally, maybe the copy from internet had starforce already removed...

I have finally fix it!
Dart has an option to disable services and controllers. I disabled one, but there were another two. Once disabled the three, the system boots again normally :)
Bloody starforce !
