I had a conversation with a reverse engineering assembly hacker about the Stalker CoP parental check, and I got this working pctrlchk.dll in return! Place it in the game's /bin folder.

Here's his documentation on the hack.
Quote:
At the beginning of the pctrlchk function (100012E0) change
Code:
100012E0 >   81EC 30080000  SUB ESP,830

into
Code:
100012E0 >   B8 01000000    MOV EAX,1
100012E5     C3             RETN

If you're curious, that's basically something like this in C:
Code:
int pctrlchk(void)
{
   return 1;
}

Problem solved. :D

well, seems to do the trick but i get an error :

xrEngine.exe caused ACCESS_VIOLATION in module "I:\games\StalkerCOP\bin\xrEngine.exe" at 0023:0040B284, CApplication::load_draw_internal()+1412 byte(s)

i don't know if it's from the patched dll or from something else.

I had the same problem, but I can confirm the dll hack works fine. :)

CTD?

Also, are there any other issues? If the inability to host LAN games or to Alt-Tab out of the game are the only issues, I wouldn't label it as incompatible.

CTD = Crash to desktop.

I think there is still a save game issue where save slots cannot be used more than once in game (it will say it saved but doesn't actually overwrite anything) so when all save slots are full the save games must be manually deleted in explorer to continue to save. I still have to check if compatability mode fixes this problem.

The multi-player issue is a fairly large one as LAN is the only way to play multiplayer at all. The WON service the game depended on for internet games is long dead, so Hamachi or other VPN + LAN is often the only way to play with others.

Ah, of course.

Yes, but I assume the game also has a single-player mode? "Not compatible" usually means major issues like the game refusing to start, or even install. Not being able to use a subset of the game's features that doesn't necessarily appeal to everyone isn't, IMHO, a major issue.
