The Windows Sensor and Location platform simplifies the integration and use of sensors. The platform consists of a driver component and a client component.

Isn„t this a clear privacy danger, this function? This is why I choose to keep it turned off.

Does anyone know if there is a plan to support Location & Sensors in any versions Windows Server 2012? We are wanting to use the location sensors, and have it supported in the clients, and mobiles software, but support is lacking in our servers to use automate using GPS sensors to fix the location of the servers versus the clients. Has anyone in this forum had any luck getting the senors to work in Windows Server 2008 R2?
...Thanks for any suggestions or assistance.

It's a screenshot taken in Windows 8. This feature is not (yet) ported to Windows Server 2012, so that's why it is in the Wish List ;)

Hi kommunikator,

Haven't had time to work on this lately. However, if you like you can try to figure out what files and registry keys are required to get this feature in Windows Server 2012.

See this post for information on how to start with this where in step 2 you use the command control /name Microsoft.LocationSettings. Searching this name string (Microsoft.LocationSettings) in the Windows 8 registry leads to the file %SystemRoot%\System32\SensorsCpl.dll which is used to configure its options.

If you figure out dll's are missing, copy them from the Windows 8 machine including the [dllname].dll.mui in the en-US (in case you are using the en-US language of Windows) subdirectory. For example:
Code:
%SystemRoot%\System32\SensorsCpl.dll
%SystemRoot%\System32\en-US\SensorsCpl.dll.mui
After copying try to register the files using the commandline: regsvr32 [dllname].dll

Enjoy and good luck! :geek:

@arris,

i am afraid i am not that adept at computers to figure out the above by myself!!!

it would be great if you could provide the missing dlls & muis with a tutorial like here :

thank you very much!!!

I can't really handle that process monitor program but nevertheless I tried to "import" this location thingy in Srv2012 but haven't succeeded (yet?)....

I copied some files and also exported some registry settings but (one of the) main problem(s) seems to be that there is a virtual sensor device in device manager called the "Windows Location provider" and I don't have a clue how to install this virtual device in Server 2012....

There is an inf file but it can't be installed (in Srv 2012) due to a lack of digital signature informations....
