When I attempt to refresh the Roles and Features Summary portions of the Server Manager I get the error "Unexpected error refreshing Server Manager; the component store has been corrupted. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80073712)"

I am running Windows Server 2008 Standard.

First be sure you haven't tried any Activation cracks on your OS. If you did, probably that is the problem. Otherwise, you can try to find a solution at the Microsoft Technet Forums in the Windows Server : Management section or create a thread there so other Microsoft Professionals can help you.

I'm having this problem too. I just reinstalled Windows Server 2008 again after it was giving me some weird problems.

I'm starting to suspect my hard drive, which would suck royally.

probably solution 1 :

Start-> run ( as admin ) : dcomcnfg.exe

make sure it looks like this here - if not, change settings like in this screen :

properties of "My Computer" in DCOM config ( Server manager uses distributed com )



reboot might required !

- Check also Services.msc that dcom and MSDTC ( Distributed Transaction Coordinator ) is enabled and set to automatic -

probably solution 2 :

also make sure that you have not set some incorrect values for refreshing of Server manager in gpedit.msc , if there is a manual timeout for refreshing given then set it to "not configured" and reboot.

Otherwise see MS Knowledgebase .. they have lots of private Hotfixes for Vista/2008 and Win7 available which you can request for free to be mailes to your email. ( Files that will go into the next SP but are not on Windows Update ) - its an automated solution, no MS employee will contact you . They do it this way so that not the average joe will run windows with unsupported files installed ( too much or wrong hotfixes can cause issues of cause .. its a support matter ) .
