R2 "$OEM$ FOLDER" PROJECT - v1.1 !
aka "The 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse Project"
Thank you to :
* Asciiwolf for W7 Packs for R2
* NAOS for extra tweaks and fixes
* Muldercs for our Sig
Changelog 29/08/2011 :
* Updated Software * Updated W7PacksR2 with some fixes (TY Ascii ) * Changed Logon Wallpaper * Fixed some new registry entries, ......
What's all this about ?
We decided to create a $OEM$ folder that will install all necessary packs to get Windows Server 2008 R2 to a Workstation OS.
Till now the only way to do this was either to "sysprep" the release or use RT Server Customization Tool from Ben, involving lots of manipulations and maybe some errors if you are not acquainted with Windows Imaging and Deployment Techniques.
After lots of testing (almost 80 VM tests on all R2 Editions in 1 month) the $OEM$ Folder was ready.
It's just a single folder that you add to your regular Windows Server 2008 R2 untouched from M$.
Basically you can now make your own R2 Workstation release !!!!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How does it work ?
It's a series of scripts that enable features and custom your R2 to a W7 Look OS.
Works on all R2 Editions : Foundation, Standard, Enterprise, Data Center and Web Server.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's required ?
1/ Regular R2 release from M$
2/ A program to edit iso files to add $OEM$ folder into "SOURCES" in iso file
3/ A VM or a PC
4/ A bit of extra time on install as VM or PC will reboot 3 times before it's fully operational
5/ You only need to enter a password (no complexity required) or not
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's in it ?
Mods :
-> Added W7 Boot Screen -> Added W7 Custom Logons Screens -> Added W7 Themes from W7 Pro -> Added Extra M$ Themes
-> Installed W7 Aero Cursors -> Installed W7 Sidebar -> Installed W7 Sticky Notes -> Installed W7 Games
-> Enabled Windows Audio -> Enabled .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 -> Enabled Desktop Experience -> Enabled Themes -> Enabled Dreamscene -> Enabled Audio -> Enabled Wireless Networking -> Enabled Server Backup
-> Disabled IE Enhanced Security Configuration -> Disabled Complex Password -> Disabled Password Expiration -> Disabled CTRL+ALT+DEL at Startup -> Disabled Shutdown Event Tracker
-> Uxtheme has been patched
-> Added msmpeg2enc.dll, msmpeg2vdec.dll and msmpeg2adec.dll for WMP11 -> Added BDA Support
Tweaks :
-> Added "Take Ownership" to the right-click context menu -> Added "Copy File Names" to Context Menu -> Added "Copy To/Move To" to the right-click context menu -> Added "Open Command Windows" to the right-click context menu
and many more.........
Preinstalled :
M$ Stuff (all packs)
* DirectX June 2010 x86/x64 * Microsoft Silverlight * C++ 2010 x86/x64 * nET Framework 4 March x86/x64
Extras (only in packs with apps !!!!)
* K-Lite_Codec_Pack x86/x64 * Java Runtime Update x86/x64 * Flash Player 11_b2_install_win (IE and Non-IE) x86 * Flash Player 11_b2_install_win (IE and Non-IE) x64 * Adobe Shockwave Full * Nightly x64 (Firefox x64 Test Version) (US English)
Should you wish to add Bluetooth Stack and System Restore please check here for tool :
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1435
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Some extra information :
I would like to add that this project is not static and that all scripts can be edited.
I just would like to point out that you need though to respect the order the way is was built.
1/ setupcomplete (install M$ stuff, adds main Registry tweaks and disables GPO)
2/ runonce (runs DISM to add R2 features and installs W7 packs for R2)
3/ cmd file in R2 startup (installs apps and does some fine tweaking)
By changing the execution order some features or applications may not install correctly !
At your own risk.
We are currently working on GUI for this instead of CMD Windows. I'll update the topic when done.

Again great work all of you We de not plan to add SuperFetch to $OEM$ FOLDER PORJECT for the moment. SuperFetch is some extra tweaking and not vital to R2 Workstation. I will await more feedback on it. TY for asking. Regards, N & Team

hey neige nice work with updating your tools to work with SP1. As you wrote: "19/01/2011 -> UPDATING PACKS WITH ASCII'S SP1 PACKS !!!!" I would like to ask if you know when we can expect to see this? I guess you ware busy testing it etc. but would be nice to know if you think you will finish soon or if it takes longer time.
Greetings
