Hello, Office Starter 2010 is for free (no warez), but it does not want to install on Server OS!

Does anybody know how to "fake" the Producttype of Windows Server to fool Office Starter into thinking it runs on a Workstation? The Compatibility mode only fakes the Product Version.

Bye!

1. Download the Windows 7 and R2 activators here: removed

2. Launch Windows 7 Extreme Loader. After it loads, choose Advanced Mode

3. Under Key & Certificate change value to "Key: Ultimate Retail (MSDN)"

4. Reboot your PC. Your copy of Windows will be unactivated but it will be in Windows 7 licensing mode which will now allow you to proceed with Office 2010 Starter Installation.

5. Install Office 2010 Starter

6. Launch Windows Server 2008 R2 activator.

7. Reboot. Your PC is now activated with Server 2008 R2 license again with full functionality as a Server...but with Office 2010 starter installed.

Thank you for replying, i am sure your method works, but i was hoping for a less intrusive (virus risk free) solution, maybe a registry change, api hooks or some trick using access rights.
Bye!

I have tried all the options that I could think of:

Application Verifier OS Versioning trick
Compatability Mode
Deny access to ProductOptions registry key
Microsoft ACT

If only we could find an MSI package or found a way to find an offline installer in which we could extract the exe and someone trick setup.exe into running or use orca to edit setup.msi.

There are some .msi's in the list so I assume they can be modified in order to install in Windows Server.

The "en-us" language in the url can be replaced by one of the following to install other languages:
Code:
Arabic: ar-sa
Bulgarian: bg-bg
Chinese (Simplified): zh-cn
Chinese: zh-tw
Croatian: hr-hr
Czech: cs-cz
Danish: da-dk
Dutch: nl-nl
English: en-us
Estonian: et-ee
Finnish: fi-fi
French: fr-fr
German: de-de
Greek: el-gr
Hebrew: he-il
Hindi: hi-in
Hungarian: hu-hu
Italian: it-it
Japanese: ja-jp
Kazakh: kk-kz
Korean: ko-kr
Latvian: lv-lv
Lithuanian: lt-lt
Norwegian (Bokmål): nb-no
Polish: pl-pl
Portuguese (Brazil): pt-br
Portuguese: pt-pt
Romanian: ro-ro
Russian: ru-ru
Serbian: sr-latn-cs
Slovak: sk-sk
Slovenian: sl-si
Spanish: es-es
Swedish: sv-se
Thai: th-th
Turkish: tr-tr
Ukrainian: uk-ua

Hope this helps you any further! :)

hello, those two .msi are just (optional) components of the main installer which is "SetupConsumerC2ROLW.exe".

I already tried hooking GetVersionEx, but that crashes (BEX:webio.dll) the setup seconds into installation process. This is horrible :(

Don't know exactly how the installer works and I can't try it at the moment. But I found a possible solution. More specific the file Descriptor.xml specifies the required os versions.
At the end of these lines there is the productType (see code below), 1 stands for workstation (Vista/Win 7) where 3 stands for server versions (Server 2008/Server 2008 R2).
So maybe you can try editing the productType property in the xml.

When I find some spare time I will try this at home in a virtual machine. But spare time is rare lately so I can't make any promises.

Code:
<MultiPrereq FailMessage="NoMinOS">
     <OS MinVer="6.0" MinSP="1" ProductType="1"/>
     <OS MinVer="6.1" MinSP="0" ProductType="1"/>
</MultiPrereq>

Hello, I had already tried this – the installer checks signatures and so changing any of those files results fails.

As a workaround, you can use a trimmed down version of Office online for free with Skydrive. It only requires the Windows Live ID Sign In Assistant app + a Windows Live ID.

http://skydrive.live.com

Store all your word documents in the cloud for free and download them locally on your hard drive if you wish.
