I added this to the compatibility list thread but thought I would make a separate topic in case anyone has any other issues with this game.

Upon launching the game, 2008 R2 will kick back an error about DSS Launcher and an appcrash. To fix this and keep it from crashing upon launch, you must disable SEHOP -

Disable SEHOP:
Code:
open / run regedit
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\kernel\
delete the following - DisableExceptionChainValidation and DistributeTimers

Once the game launches, it may crash upon starting a race. If so, change audio setting from Rapture3D to software in the games settings.

Notes:
Found out about the Rapture audio crash issue on another forum. I'm not sure if it's specifically related to Realtek sound or if it's global.

Not sure if DEP must be off or not. I disabled it long ago, so I don't know if having it on would make a difference. If you still have problems, disable DEP:

To disable DEP: open an elevated Command Prompt by right clicking on it and running it as administrator. Type the following:
Code:
bcdedit /set nx AlwaysOff

I had no problem installing Dirt 3 or any problems with GFWL. But I use an offline profile.

Thanks to Allukend for the SEHOP fix from the Fable 3 thread.

Eh poo. Game launches, options can be changed, etc. But once a race loads, crash to desktop. Will work on this some more tomorrow.

You could try the following solutions:

1. Make sure your .NET Framework Client is up to date (4.0)

2. Try uninstalling GFWL and installing the newest version.

3. Force DX9 mode to see if it resolves crash to desktop.

Navigate to My Documents > My Games > DiRT 3 > hardwaresettings > hardware_settings_config.xml. Right-click on XML and Edit with Notepad. In Notepad, go to Edit > Find... Type in "forcedx9". There is only one result for this keyword so it should come up right on it. Change value from false to true.

Personally I used the Game Fix from GameCopyWorld to fix the crashing issue with DiRT 3 on my machine. The only thing that sucks it you cannot create an online profile because it messes with the product key. It still allows you to create an offline profile and save your progress however. Here are some examples of me playing DiRT 3 on my R2 machine:

Did all three of those before you even suggested them. I need to try Dirt 2 again. I had that running before I reinstalled the OS a couple weeks ago. I've never had such a problem with getting a game to run on R2. This stinks!

It's actually a, um, *borrowed* version of the game and already cracked. I could care less about the online profile part, that's not important to me. I'll try the gamecopyworld crack and see if that helps. I already thought about trying that, just haven't done it yet. Gonna work on this shortly and see if I can get it going.
